Learners aged 19 and over may not have to pay tuition fees. To find out if you qualify for the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) subsidy you will need to bring evidence of mean tested benefit with you when you enrol on your course. You can find full details about what discounts you may be eligible for in our information leaflet. Click here to download the Information about Fees and Discounts leaflet

All adult ‘BASIC SKILLS’ courses are free of tuition fees and all Full Level 2 and 3 tuition, exam and registration fees are FREE to some learners. Our advisers can give you details of which discounts apply to you.

Please note: If you have lived overseas and/or are not a UK Citizen you may not qualify for LSC subsidy. Please ask an Adviser for details.

Students whose fees are supported by employers, agents, local authorities or other sponsoring organisations must provide written evidence at the point of enrolment. This must include who will pay the fees, where any invoice should be sent to and a contact name. In the absence of this evidence the student will be liable for the fees.

Options

Here are some options you may like to think about:

You may be eligible for an Adult Learning Grant (ALG).

Whatever you want to do job-wise, having the right qualifications can give you a real head start.

If you left school without any qualifications or you think you could benefit from new skills to help you progress in your job, why not go back to college? It’s never too late to learn new skills, and it may be more affordable than you think.

With the Adult Learning Grant (ALG), you can now get paid to go back in to education – and get the skills you need, to get the job you want.

If you’re eligible, you’ll get up to £30 per week while you’re studying – around £1,000 a year – to help you to pay for things like travel, books and materials. You can choose from a whole range of courses to gain qualifications that are relevant to actual jobs, and improve your employability.

So now you can focus on achieving your potential and getting where you want to be in life – and get some extra cash to help you along the way.

Many people, just like you, are already taking advantage of ALG. Why not do the same?

You can use ALG to study a wide range of courses, including BTECs, NVQs, GCSEs, and A Levels, in a variety of subjects such as:

  1. Business: administration and law, website design, accounting, computer skills (ICT), advertising
  2. Construction: electrical, painting and decorating, plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying
  3. Sciences: sociology, biology, physics
  4. Health & Social Care: childcare, counselling, dental nursing, fitness instruction, health & safety
  5. Services: retail, hairdressing, catering, travel and tourism, customer service
  6. Other: media and publishing.

Many people who come back to college in later life find themselves more focused and determined – so you’ll probably have a better idea of what subjects you’d like to study too.

Are you eligible for the Adult Learning Grant?

To get ALG you need to be:

  1. aged 19 or over
  2. studying for at least 12 hours a week, and attending college regularly
  3. doing your first full level 2 or first level 3 qualification (includes BTEC, NVQ, GCSE and A Level)
  4. earning less than £19,513 if you are single or less than £30,810 if you are a couple.

If you’re working part-time, or living at home, you could still get ALG. How much you get will depend on your income and benefits.
