Xingbo Lui – Star Performer at WMC

From Berlin Multinational Circus – to the Chinese State Circus – to Wirral Metropolitan College – Xingbo Lui has certainly had an exciting career.

Currently studying English at Wirral Met, Xingbo is enjoying living in New Brighton, Merseyside, while studying.

Xingbo LuiXingbo came to England with the Chinese State Circus, performing daredevil feats such as bending steel words with his throat and having bricks broken on his head with sledgehammers. After studying under the Chief Warrior Instructor, Lui Xingzhen, in the Shaolin Temple in Shi Guolin, Xingbo became a 6th Dan. He is schooled in Dahong boxing as well as the Shaolin form of the sport, Gung Fu, Tai Chi, Qigong and Sandaboji, which practices the use of weapons.

Xingbo now runs Kung Fu, (the non aggressive Chinese art of self defence) and Tai Chi classes in New Brighton and New Ferry, Merseyside. Xingbo enjoys a quieter life these days with his Hungarian born wife, whom he met when she worked in the circus box office and his two children.

Xingbo is currently studying English at Wirral Metropolitan College and hopes to progress to a Business course, which will help him promote and expand his martial arts school.



New Principal joins WMC

Mike Potter - PrincipalThe Governors of Wirral Metropolitan College have recently appointed Mike Potter as the new College Principal and Chief Executive.
In his previous role, Commodore Mike Potter CBE ADC RN, a physics graduate from Oxford University, was Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Operations of the MoD’s Naval Recruiting and Training Agency. Mike was in charge of all shore-based naval training across five major training establishments.

Mike, who joined the College on 23rd October 2006, said.

‘I understand the important role that Wirral Metropolitan College plays in supporting the education and training of the local community. The College helps up to 16,000 students achieve their qualifications every year and with over 700 staff, we are also a large local employer. Our staff and students are all very committed to realising the College’s vision to become outstanding and I am looking forward to the challenge of taking the College forward during the next phase of its development, to achieve this vision.’
