Press Release published in: Liverpool Echo on 6th December 2006, Wirral News on 13 December 2006

College Awarded Prestigious Beacon AwardWe are delighted to announce that the College has been successful in winning an AoC Beacon Award which was announced publicly at the AoC Conference today.

The College had won the NEBOSH Award for teaching programmes in Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management. The award, one of 26 Beacon Awards sponsored annually, recognises imaginative and innovatory teaching and learning practice and demonstrates the interdependence of the work of Further Education colleges, employers and professionals. Our very best wishes and congratulations go to the Health and Safety team from the Maths and Science Programme Team Managers area, whose work has been acknowledged by the sector, today.

We are also very pleased to inform you of a very successful Ofsted inspection visit of our Construction section that also took place this week. The area was visited as part of an Ofsted project to identify good practice in Construction, in colleges. The inspection focused on data and evidence, included a number of observations of teaching and learning and included a number of discussions with staff and students. The visit identified nine areas of good practice, one case study that will be put forward and three areas for development. The good practice report, drawn from visits to 23 colleges, should be published at the end of March 2007. Our very best wishes and congratulations to the Construction team for representing what we do very well, very professionally, to Ofsted.

College Principal, Mike Potter CBE is quoted as saying, “these two examples reinforce to me that we will be an outstanding College”.
