Mike Potter CBE, Principal of Wirral Metropolitan College recently received one of the first Unionlearn Quality Awards from the Secretary of State for Education, Alan Johnson MP, (now Secretary of State for Health).
The award was made for the college’s Trade Union Education and Workforce Development Programme, as well as for its Workforce Skills for Life Programme.
This is one of the first awards to be given; in the future they will be awarded to providers in the learning world who are committed to working with Trade Unions. Unionlearn will use the awards to demonstrate that unions and union learners are considered in the design, development and delivery of courses and programmes. Providers achieving the Unionlearn Quality Award will be included in the Unionlearn website, which receives over 1 Million hits per month.
Mike Potter CBE, Principal of Wirral Metropolitan College said:
“Wirral Metropolitan College has an excellent working relationship with trade unions. We are delighted and privileged to receive the Quality Award as recognition of our strong commitment to our union learning work. We will continue to build upon this prestigious relationship”.
Dave Eva, regional Manager Unionlearn with the North West TUC said:
“Wirral Metropolitan College is an outstanding provider, which really deserves this award for its commitment and dedication to helping union learners. There are over 18,000 union learning reps all over the country, helping over 150,000 people to access courses. Colleges like Wirral Metropolitan College play a huge role in enabling those who have traditionally missed out on education to improve their lives and those of their families through learning.
