Successful Launch of College for Business

CfBA joint enterprise between Wirral Metropolitan College and Scientiam, ‘College for Business’, was launched at The Village Hotel on Friday 23rd November. The event was attended by prominent local business people, Wirral Metropolitan College Principal; Mike Potter CBE, Mandi O’Shea; Managing Director, Scientiam and colleagues from both the College and Scientiam.

Motorcycle ATA gets into gear

motorbikeWirral motor cycle riders will know where to get their bikes serviced as local motor cycle mechanics get qualified and receive a photocard to prove it! Wirral Metropolitan College is the only centre in the north of England where this qualification can be gained and local motor cycle mechanics can apply now.

More than 120 motorcycle technicians have now achieved accredited status within the Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) scheme for motorcycles, which was officially unveiled at the end of February 2007. The scheme, the first of its kind to recognise proven technical current competence, was developed by the leading manufacturers, in association with the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), the professional association for the motor industry, which governs the scheme and the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA).

Sir Bob Geldof Presents Inaugural AoC Student of the Year Award

Martin Rice and Bob GeldofOutstanding college students who have achieved against the odds today (22 November) received a special award from Sir Bob Geldof.

The Association of Colleges Student of the Year Achievement Award, sponsored by publishers Heinemann, highlights exceptional student achievement, often in diversity, and celebrates the amazing success stories so common to the sector.

Over forty colleges representing more than 300,000 students submitted entries to the competition.

Victorian Fountain Discovered at Eastham Country Park

Phil Gilchrist, Lauren Pownall and Mike PotterAn exciting discovery has been made at Eastham Country Park. Prince’s Trust students, Team 92, from Wirral Metropolitan College have discovered a fountain, buried for over 30 years, while working on a project with the Park Rangers to maintain the Country Park.

As part of the Prince’s Trust Team Programme, the team take on a Community Project. This project is aimed at making a difference and assisting in a local Community somewhere on the Wirral.

Wirral’s Tourism Awards for Excellence

Quality and service recognised at Wirral’s Tourism Awards for Excellence ceremony

The quality of service and professionalism of Wirral’s tourism industry was celebrated recently at the borough’s annual Tourism Awards Ceremony. Wirral Metropolitan College’s, Foundation Degree Tourism & Leisure student, Sara Lockwood, aged 24, from Eastham, has won the Academic Achiever award for 2006/07 at the Wirral Tourism Awards, sponsored by The Learning and Skills Council, which was presented on Thursday evening at the Wirral Tourism Awards for Excellence 2007 at Thornton Hall, Wirral. Fellow student, Rachael Kelly was announced as the runner up.
