It Started One Summer…

old computerDuring the course of an academic year we receive many requests to Marketing, some are easier than others to provide. Recently we received an unusual request from a former student,
Mark Partington. After some research and the kind assistance of John Tunley, MIS Department, we were able to send Mark a series of photographs for an article he is writing for a UK Computer magazine.

It’s a great story of success and working in the real world.

Mark writes:

“I came to the college twice…technically. My first visit was as part of a school exchange facility, where I came for a period, from Calday Grange Grammar, to play with the College computer.

Every year over 3000 people are killed in Road Traffic Collisions in the UK, and more than a quarter (29%) of those killed are aged 25 or under (statistics from www.brake.org.uk).

Drive Survive is a one day course targeted at young drivers (aged 16-19 years old) to raise their awareness on how driver behaviour can have implications on road safety. This course involves presentations from different emergency agencies across Cheshire, and an independent study observing young offender’s behaviour has shown a substantial change in attitude, and a reduction in re-offending by 87% after attendance on the course.

Hard Work – what an Experience!

Hard Work - what an Experience!

Proving that hard work isn’t always boring, a group of Young Apprenticeship Construction students came into College to undertake work experience during February half term. This is an integral requirement of the course.

The students worked with the facilities staff, assisting them with many areas of their role. The students really appreciated the opportunity to ‘have a go’ and would like to thank the facilities staff for all their help and support during the week.

The students thoroughly enjoyed their experiences and made the following comments:

“It was one of the most enjoyable fun times of my life”. (Ryan)

“I really enjoyed working with the staff they made me feel welcome and I learnt safety when using a ladder”. (Claire)

“Using the jet wash was amazing”. (Louis)

“It was great to work with the team as and I learnt lots, I enjoyed the fun with the jet wash”. (Adam)

“It was so much fun, I liked the jet wash and working with the men, they were friendly and explained things to use. I didn’t know the air in the building is filtered four times a minute”.
