LSC Northwest Staff Conference

Diploma students The Hospitality and Catering section was approached by Simon Pierce, Acting Director of Area, LSC Greater Merseyside to provide students to assist at their ‘All Staff Conference’. The conference was held at the Manchester Hilton Hotel, for 350 delegates.

Students studying for the Diploma; Introduction to Professional Cookery, responded to the request . At 7.15am on Tuesday 25 November they left Conway Park, driven by their tutor Steve Astles.

Prior to this Ian Rodgers Marketing Manager for the Greater Merseyside Learning and Skills Council, visited Conway Park on Thursday 20th November in order to brief the students on their roles and responsibilities at the event.

Hairdressing Pioneers

Derby University Pioneers for the hairdressing industry, Lynda Johnson and Jean McKean, recently graduated from Derby University. Hard work and determination paid off for the two hairdressing lecturers from Wirral Metropolitan College, as they became the first in the country to successfully achieve BA Honours Degree in Hairdressing and Salon Management.

This is the end of a long journey for Lynda and Jean that hopefully will inspire others, the hairdressing industry profile has evolved and standards have risen over the last decade, now an appropriate qualification exists to reflect this.

Glittering Awards Ceremony

Dance Students PerformanceWirral Borough Council’s, Live Wirral Community Awards 08, organised by NewHeartlands and in association with Radio City, (hosted by Simon Ross), were held to honour the unsung heroes of Wirral for the work they do within the Housing Market Renewal (HMR) areas of the borough. Residents living in Birkenhead,Tranmere, Rock Ferry and Wallasey have been undergoing significant change as part of the HMR programme as their neighbourhoods are regenerated.

Swim The Channel

Wirral Met CPP (CIPD) Student Chloe H Fairfoull-Mendelsohn recently finished a “The Aspire Channel Swim 2008″ (22 miles) challenge for Aspire a spinal cord injuries charity at The Royal Clifton Health Club

She completed the swim in 14hrs 11mins, the mens’ world record for this distance in breaststroke is 13hrs 31mins, there is no official womens’ record.
