What is a Cadet?

A Cadet is someone who has a genuine interest in caring for people, who is enthusiastic about a career in healthcare and hopes to work in the NHS or Social Care.

What does a Cadet do?

As a Cadet you will spend 2 or 3 days a week in college and 2 days on various placements where you will gain experience alongside NHS professionals.

What qualifications will I gain?

We are offering a 1 year NVQ level 2 in Care with key skills and technical certificate and a 2 year BTEC National Diploma (equivalent to 3 A Levels).

Consider an Exciting Career in Engineering Robotics – our engineering students learn how to build real robots that move and obey their commands. Design them, construct them, and program them quickly and easily, and put them to work.

Recent breakthroughs in forensic science are amongst the topics covered in science courses offered at Wirral Metropolitan College.

New advances in forensic science enable scientists to visualise fingerprints on metal such as bullet casings even after the print has been removed.

Dr John Bond, Scientific Support Manager at Northamptonshire Police, has developed a method that enables scientists to ‘visualise fingerprints’ on metal even after the print itself has been removed. This is possible following a study into the way fingerprints can corrode metal surfaces so leaving their imprint even if the surface is wiped clean after a crime. For example the technique can enhance – after firing– a fingerprint that has been deposited on a small calibre metal cartridge case before it is fired. The new technique adds to those such as DNA profiling that enable so called ‘cold cases’ to be re-opened.

These developments in forensic science show it to be one of the key analytical areas of applied science with many applications not just those of crime detection.
