Course Outline
This course will provide you with an opportunity to develop your skills by exploring a wide range of creative activities before deciding upon your specialist area of study for your progression into Higher Education.
Course Details
The course is concerned with the analysis and development of ideas and their realisation in two and three dimensions. From initially being organised around specific themes and projects, it evolves into one in which emphasis is placed on the development of personalised solutions related to work programmes devised by each student in consultation with relevant tutors. This demands considerable personal initiative and will require the continuation of studies outside College hours. You will be encouraged to develop practical and intellectual skills relevant to the visualisation and realisation of your ideas. Your potential will be continually assessed through the use of group and individual tutorials and formal assessments at key points throughout the year. This, together with a programme of visiting speakers and visits made by the students to degree centres, enables a realistic and informed choice to be made regarding your individual future course of study.
The course is divided into three stages; Exploratory, Pathway and Confirmatory. The Exploratory Stage is diagnostic and consists of themed projects and skills Workshops. The Pathway Stage enables students to choose one of four broad options; Fine Art, Fashion and Textiles, Graphics/Illustration, and 3D Design/Craft. The Confirmatory Stage during which students submit a self devised project for external examination. The end of year culminates in a final exhibition which is also open to the public.
There is a comprehensive programme of contextual studies including the History of Art, Design and related areas. All students study for additional qualifications in Life Drawing and Using Photoshop. Use is made of local Art Galleries and Museums and we have a study visit to London. Students have the opportunity to visit a Major cultural centre abroad.
