Communication skills - An ability to communicate one to one e.g. to a tutor or client and in a group as part of a discussion.
Literacy - Minimum Level 1. Reading - Much of the course material is presented in work books. Students need an ability to read and understand these work books. Technical language will be taught on the course. Writing - Students need to produce written assignments.
Numeracy - Numeracy skills are required as students will need to be able to work with treatment materials and handle money.

Before starting your course, you will take assessments in literacy and numeracy to make sure that you are working at the right level. The results of these assessments will determine the level of the course you are interviewed for.
Additional Information
An interview for all candidates will be arranged with a member of the teaching team where you will have an opportunity to discuss the course. During your interview you will take an apptitude/skills test. All applicants will need a reference.
To ensure all learners are enrolled on the right course of study, the first few weeks of the programme will be an extended induction period. During this time your communication, numeracy and study skills will be assessed as well as your own preferred method of learning. Your behaviour will also be monitored, including your time management and attendance. Towards the end of the induction period, your course tutor will review your progress. If your course tutor believes the programme does not meet your requirements an appointment will be arranged with you (and possibly your parents) to discuss this assessment and a suitable alternative. This may include further assistance from the Advice and Guidance Team based in the college.
