You will need to provide your own equipment kit and overalls. Approximate cost £200.

Entry Guidelines

Specific requirements - GCSE Maths, English and Science at grade D or above are desirable. Students need to have a genuine interest in Beauty Therapy. Commitment to the course and regular attendance is expected.

Communication skills - An ability to communicate one to one e.g. to a tutor or customer and in a group as part of discussions.

Literacy - Minimum Level 1. Reading - Much of the course material is presented in work books. Students need an ability to read and understand these books. Writing - Students will need to produce written assignments.

Numeracy - Numeracy skills are required as students will need to work with treatment materials and handle money.

Manual dexterity and physical stamina - Students need the skills for fine work e.g. accurate use of an eyeliner pencil or nail varnish brush and there are times when it may be necessary to stand for long periods.

Students will need to provide a character reference before or at interview. The offer of a place on this course is dependant upon a satisfactory reference.

Before starting your course, you will take assessments in literacy and numeracy to make sure that you are working at the right level. The results of these assessments will determine the level of the course you are interviewed for.

Assessment Method

Assessments continue throughout the course both in practical and theory sessions.

Equipment Required

Students will need to provide their own equipment kit and overalls.

Additional Information

An early application is recommended for this course. An interview for all candidates will be arranged with a member of the teaching team where you will have an opportunity to discuss the course and your individual needs. There will be a Maths and English assessment test at this interview.

To ensure all learners are enrolled on the right course of study, the first few weeks of the programme will be an extended induction period. During this time your communication, numeracy and study skills will be assessed as well as your own preferred method of learning. Your behaviour will also be monitored, including your time management and attendance. Towards the end of the induction period, your course tutor will review your progress. If your course tutor believes the programme does not meet your requirements an appointment will be arranged with you (and possibly your parents) to discuss this assessment and a suitable alternative. This may include further assistance from the Advice and Guidance Team based in the college.
