We can offer some courses, including ESOL which can be completed within six months. Some students prefer to apply for a Student Visitor Visa for courses of six months or less. Wirral Metropolitan College is a large, state-funded College of Further Education with a total student population of 13,500 with around 2,000 studying full-time.
The College is based across three main sites on the Wirral in the North West of England, two of which are in Birkenhead, within easy walking distance of the town centre. Twelve Quays Campus was the most recent to open in September 2003 and provides state of the art facilities for our students, including dance studios, art studios and modern library facilities. The other sites are equally well equipped, providing modern up-to-date facilities and resources.
Further Education colleges, such as Wirral Metropolitan College, are designed to help students prepare for University or help them acquire skills in their chosen fields, such as Accounting, Engineering, Business and Tourism. In addition there is a range of English Language courses for international students who do not have English as their first language. Wirral Met also offers full-time and part-time academic and vocational courses, specially designed to meet the needs of students from all over the world. We also have strong links with universities and other educational establishments within the UK providing excellent progression opportunities for our students.
The College enjoys a reputation, both locally and with former International students, for high standards of teaching and facilities.
We have a high rate of exam passes in all areas and many departments within the college have gained awards and accolades, such as CoVE (Centre of Vocational Excellence) and Beacon Status. The dedicated teaching staff in the College encourage and support students to achieve the best results possible.
About the English Language unit
The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) department is accredited by the British Council and is a member of EnglishUK which ensures that students receive excellent teaching, suitable premises and plenty of support. The College is also inspected regularly by OFSTED, the government body who ensure standards in education in the UK for the British Government. These accreditations and inspections ensure that the course content and teaching are as up to date and of the highest quality.
Classes within the English Language Unit have a maximum of 18 students.
Age restrictions
- International students must be aged 18 or above.
(You may be in a class that includes 16-18 year olds) - Home based students must be aged 16 or above.
