Cultural Studies, B.A. Hons

Are you a mature student with life and/or work experience but with no formal qualifications?

Are you interested in moving in to higher education but not sure what to do next?

You may already be qualified to join our B.A. Cultural Studies course at our Carlett Park Campus.

You can learn as a full-time or part-time student and will study topics like:

  • Changing views of gender and gender roles in society
  • The Romantic Legacy: from Wordsworth to Star Wars
  • Theme-parks, Shopping Malls, Style, Fashion and Identity
  • Carnivals in history and in contemporary Trinidad, Brazil and Notting Hill
  • The development of the English Language
  • Shakespeare on film

Previous students have gone on to become teachers in schools and further education or work in the areas of social work, business administration, local government and youth work and educational support.

Some have continued their studies in higher education at a higher degree level.

Wirral Met has well established and successful degree courses in Fine Art and Media Studies, and for September 2009  a brand new degree course in Illustration with Animation.

Celebrating 25 Year’s Service

July 8th, 2009

Staff from Wirral Metropolitan College; Jacqueline Mitchelson, Gary Thomas and Jenny Gooderham celebrated 25 year’s service to Further Education at Wallasey Town Hall, at an event to mark the end of a successful year at the College.

Mike Potter CBE, gave an address to over 400 assembled members of staff.  Everyone was thanked for their tremendous contribution to the learning experience of the students who have attended College this year.  There was also a special presentation to successful students who have enjoyed exceptional achievements this year.

Kelly Aspinall; North West Vocational Learner of The Year, Rebecca Ellison and Paul Chapman; Highly Commended North West Apprentice of  The Year, accepted a Personal Achievement award from College Principal, Mike Potter CBE.  The Personal Achievement award recognises outstanding achievements by the students.
