Gala Evening

This year’s Gala Evening had a carnival atmosphere and a very tropical taste, from the food served to the competition categories, music themes and tropical décor, it was a very colourful sight!

Chefs for the evening were NVQ 3 Professional Diploma students and food service was provided by VRQ 1 Professional Diploma students and NVQ 1 and 2 Food and Service students, assisted by the Catering Team.

Welcoming the guests were NVQ 2 Front Office and HNC Hospitality Management students again assisted by college staff.

The event was well attended with lots of employers from both the Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy and Hospitality and Catering industries. The judges were yet again very impressed with the high standard of all the work produced by the students.

The competition had 104 competitors from levels 1,2,3 Hairdressing & Barbering, level 2 Beauty Therapy, Fashion & Photographic and Theatrical and Media Make-up, all based around a tropical carnival theme. Everyone worked very hard preparing for the event and as a result the evening was a fabulous success, showcasing just how talented our students are. All of the staff were very proud.

School visit from Belarus

June 13th saw a second school visit from the children of Belarus.

As the children were due to perform a song and dance evening at Heswall Civic hall that night they were treated to a make-over for the event.

These children (a different group each year) visit the Wirral for a 5 week duration and stay with host families.

They enjoy their time taking part in different activities and experiencing what life is like in the UK.

Back to the Floor

The Academy staff members often hold charity days to raise money for Wirral Met’s nominated charity.

One such event is called ‘Back to the Floor’.

Here, college staff can book in for any hair or beauty treatment which is carried out by the Academy’s fully experienced and highly qualified staff raising plenty of money for charity.

Visitors from Chernobyl

May 2007 saw a visit from a group of school children from Chernobyl.
They enjoyed a day of being pampered by our hair and beauty students and were keen to have their photographs taken to show the final results.
