Gala Evening
This year’s Gala Evening had a carnival atmosphere and a very tropical taste, from the food served to the competition categories, music themes and tropical décor, it was a very colourful sight! Chefs for the evening were NVQ 3 Professional Diploma students and food service was provided by VRQ 1 Professional Diploma students and NVQ 1 and 2 Food and Service students, assisted by the Catering Team.
Welcoming the guests were NVQ 2 Front Office and HNC Hospitality Management students again assisted by college staff.
The event was well attended with lots of employers from both the Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy and Hospitality and Catering industries.
Charity Quiz Night
The Birches Restaurant recently hosted the WMC Staff Charity Quiz Night. The evening was organised by Learner Services to raise money for the College’s officially nominated charity, Clatterbridge Cancer Research.
Congratulations to ‘Bookends’, the winners of the first Quiz night. The team, (pictured; left to right, Rear: Jeff Ashcroft, Steve Cropper, Allen Dunn and Front: Shirley Jones, Pat Roberts, Ann Jones) were presented with the winner’s trophy by Sue Higginson, Assistant Principal.
£420 was raised for Clatterbridge Cancer Research, many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the evening, either by attending or supporting the charity by buying a raffle ticket. Many thanks too to everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes, including Total Fitness, Unilever and The Birches Restaurant.
Chinese Ambassador Visit
On Friday 9th November 2007, Mr Ben Chapman MP, President of Wirral Investment Network (WIN), hosted a major Business event at Wirral Metropolitan College. Her Excellency Madame Fu Ying, Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom, provided a Business Lecture to many of Wirral’s key Business Leaders. The lecture entitled ‘China’s Economic Rise and Prospects for UK-China Relations in the 21st Century’ provided an interesting insight into China’s Business Growth and stimulated interesting discussion about ways to develop UK Business potential with China. Prior to the lecture, a number of Wirral Metropolitan College’s students were presented to Her Excellency, including Chinese Students who are studying English for Speakers of Other Languages. Students developing reception skills were involved in greeting guests on arrival and a traditional afternoon tea was prepared and served by Hospitality and Catering Staff and Students in the Birches Restaurant.
