Welcome to Wirral Met College's HND Film and Television course.

If you're passionate about the magic of cinema and the world of television production, this course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the dynamic and exciting media industry.

Course Details

Our HND Film and Television course offers a comprehensive exploration of the theory and practice of filmmaking and television production. Through a blend of hands-on practical work and theoretical study, you'll develop a strong foundation in key areas such as motion graphics, branding, scriptwriting, filming, video editing, pre/post-production techniques, audio recording/editing, lighting, and studio techniques.

Additionally, the course emphasizes academic writing, research, analysis, presentation skills, and collaborative practice to ensure you develop a well-rounded skill set that's highly sought after in the industry.

This course is broken down into 2 units per year of study:

Year 1 (Level 4):
- A1 Concept & Development
- A2 Creative Project

Year 2 (Level 5):
- B1 Personal Professional Development
- B2 Professional Project

Entry Guidelines

  • Entry is open to students with relevant qualifications at level 3 such as Access to Higher Education Diploma in any subject with Pass, Merit profile or other related Level 3 qualifications, such as an Extended Diploma or A-Levels.
  • Applicants should have GCSE Maths and English grade 4/C and above.
  • Students who do not satisfy the entry criteria may be eligible by interview and evidence of relevant industry experience.
  • Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid or unpaid) and possibly also achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.

  • We welcome applicants with a genuine passion for filmmaking and television production, regardless of academic background.

    Equipment Required

    Students on the HND Film and Television course will benefit from access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, including cameras, editing suites, sound recording equipment, and studio space. 

    If you want to complete project work at home, you will need access to a laptop and Adobe Creative Cloud Licenses.

    Assessment Method

    Throughout the course, your progress will be assessed through a variety of methods including practical projects, written assignments, presentations, and group work.

    Assessment criteria are based on contextual knowledge, ideas generation and development, technical knowledge and skill, professional practice, and communication.

    As part of the course, you'll have the opportunity to undertake exciting projects that allow you to apply your skills in real-world scenarios.

    From creating your own short films to developing branding campaigns, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience that will enhance your portfolio and prepare you for a career in the film and television industry.

    Where can I progress to?

    Upon successful completion of the HND Film and Television course, you'll have the option to progress directly into employment in roles such as camera operator, video editor, production assistant, or pursue further study at degree level.

    The skills and knowledge gained on this course also provide a solid foundation for advanced study in related disciplines.
