The course is a practical 'hands on' programme designed to encourage you to develop a range of practical art skills you need to progress through various pathways in the Arts.
This course is validated by UAL and aims to encourage you to research and translate your own ideas into creative pieces of work. You will learn skills in drawing, painting, collage and sculpture through practical exercises, workshops and demonstrations. This will include working with a wide variety of materials including; pencil, charcoal, ink, acrylic paints, printmaking, mixed media, digital media, ceramics, 3D modelling. Formal design elements such as line, tone, texture, colour, pattern, scale and proportion will be explored.
To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment and undertake particular activities as part of your studies. Assessment is through practical project work with a final major project.
The course is suitable for beginners and those with some previous experience. You will need to purchase some materials for the course, full details will be given at enrolment. You will need to have the ability to meet deadlines and take responsibility for your own learning.
Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:
- A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
- Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
- English and maths, if you don't have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths or Grade 4 or above
- Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips
On successful completion of this course, you may be able to progress to Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design or other courses at Level 2.

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
