This course is accredited by University of the Arts London (UAL). The Pre-University Extended Diploma course will enable you to experience the four main areas of Art and Design: Fine Art, Graphic Design, Sculpture/3D Design and Fashion/Textiles. This will provide you with a broad range of experience to assist your progression.
This is a 2 year programme delivered as follows: 1st year Diploma (A072) 2nd year Extended Diploma (A075) Achievement of the 1st year (Diploma) can enable you to progress onto the 2nd year (Extended Diploma).
The Pre-University Extended Diploma is a practical Art and Design course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic situations, activities and demands.
As well as learning about the progression opportunities within your chosen art direction. You will develop the skills and portfolio needed to progress. It is broadly equivalent to three A levels which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to apply for a job straight away or go into higher education.
The course comprises of thirteen units - nine mandatory units, which are completed during year one. During year two a further three mandatory units are completed and students must complete one of two optional units. Year two enables you to study particular areas in depth.
During the first year you are encouraged to explore your creative potential and the emphasis is on media and process development. The second year of the course is essentially a year in which you move towards your specialist chosen areas within art and design. Students will also experience drawing development and art and design history studies as part of the programme. External visits play a vital part on the programme.
Basic art equipment, pen drive and A1 portfolio folder essential.
All units are assessed and graded through project and assignment briefs and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded with the Final Major Project.
The course is delivered in a pathway system and students progress through two programmes beginning with the Diploma and ending with the Extended Diploma. This may include further assistance from the Advice and Guidance team based in the college.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:
- A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
- Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
- English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths
- Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
