This Level 1 Diploma in Music provides opportunities for you to explore and develop your creativity, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career demands and opportunities within the music industry.
This programme is designed to offer a wide range of music experiences, developing the foundation skills and theory in the following:
You will use a variety of equipment, materials, skills and techniques and gain experiences in presenting work to an audience. In the first term you will be introduced to the fundamental elements that develop and support a music, performing and production project. The second term provides you with an opportunity to specialise in two of the areas listed above, while developing the essential skills needed to communicate ideas to an audience. Finally, during the third term you will carry out a final major project in an area of your choice, using skills you have developed throughout the programme. The Level 1 Diploma is made up of seven units and prepares students for progression onto the Level 2 Music Diploma or other Level 2 programmes.
- This is a study programme for students who are 16-18 years.
- 3 GCSEs at grade 2/E or above or relevant Entry Level qualification.
- Satisfactory interview and audition (to assess motivation and ability). No formal qualification in music is required.
- Satisfactory reference or school report.

To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment and undertake particular activities as part of your studies. Students are assessed through a range of practical projects, coursework and a final major project.

If you are aged 16-18:
This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
