NCFE Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness - Childcare route - N114

This qualification aims to: Raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties; Dispel some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues; Develop learners' knowledge of the rights of those with mental health issues and include an introduction to childcare.

Course Details

This is a study programme that will include maths and English in addition to the outline below.

The Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness is internally assessed assignments on MS Teams covering all the learning outcomes of the qualification. In addition to the mental health qualification there will also be addition units to support with working with children and young people, including:

  • Listening and talking with a young child
  • Sharing learning experiences
  • Forest school — to support mental health and development
Entry Guidelines

Relevant Entry Level qualification or 3GCSEs at Grade 2/E or above.

Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference.

Equipment Required

Students will require access to a laptop, this can be provided by college if needed.

Assessment Method

Internally assessed assignments on MS Teams.

Additional Information

Work experience will be one day per week for 8 weeks during the summer term in a childcare setting of school, following a successful DBS check.

You will have a tutorial every week with your personal tutor and a one to one review at the start of you course then every 4-6 weeks until your final progression review.

You will have the opportunity to participate in master classes, trips and charity work such as Forest Schools, Wirral Food bank and creating childcare resources.

Are you aged 16-18?

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A*-C in English and maths (grade 4 and above)
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips.
