Demand for construction workers is expected to remain high over the next few years with almost 225,000 extra workers required by 2027 to meet UK construction demand*. This T Level will equip you with the valuable skills that employers are searching for, building the foundations for a lucrative career in this thriving industry.

The course is delivered in our purpose built, industry standard construction facility at our Wirral Waters campus, where you'll regularly interact with people from the construction industry, both inside and outside of the classroom and workshop.

The core element of this T Level will enable you to develop a general understanding of construction covering a range of topics such as health and safety, construction methods and digital engineering techniques. You will also learn about topics specific to building services engineering including building technology principles and building services engineering systems.

You will then get the opportunity to choose your specialism in either Electrotechnical Engineering or Plumbing & Heating Engineering depending on your interests and career goals. As part of the T Level you'll undertake a substantial industry placement. Giving you an amazing opportunity to work with an employer while you study, such as a construction or building company, and gain invaluable experience as well as key skills that employers are looking for.

Course Details

On this course you will develop practical skills and underpinning job knowledge to an industry standard; there are mandatory subjects that focus on how bench carpenters undertake and complete work.

Associated works such as manufacturing, fitting, hand skills, health and safety, principles of building and the CSCS on site health and safety card in the Carpentry and Joinery area.

These will be learnt using classrooms and industrial standard workshops along with some online learning to develop a rounded college learning experience.

Entry Guidelines

This is a Study Programme and applicants must be 16 or 17 years of age when applying (on or before 31st August)*. This is Government Guidelines.

Relevant Level 1 qualification or minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above.

Applicants should be ready to complete a work placement

Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference.

Assessment Method

There will be continuous formative assessments throughout the programme which will be set by your tutors to check your progress in both your Vocational, Maths and English. Practical formative assessments will also take the form of tutor-designed assessments which will be set throughout the year. Maths and English at Level 2 or Equivalent Functional skills will need to be achieved to progress on to a T Level.

Additional Information

You will learn the fundamentals in developing skills to undertake a T level this will involve hand skills in both bench and site work, using arrange machines to help with manufacturing and installing on site, along with health and safety in the workplace and understanding how to communicate with others. You will also develop your maths, English and digital skills along with the behaviors required to undertake a T level or gain employment.

Where can I progress to?

Following a T Level, you could progress straight into a skilled profession or continue your studies with a degree or higher apprenticeship. Career options might include electrician, plumber, onsite agent, project lead, construction manager (onsite) and quality control.
