British Sign Language (BSL) level 2 (Part 2) - Z008

This course is part two of the Level 2 BSL qualification and is a continuation from the British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 Part 1 (Z062). It will enable students to progress to the formal Level 2 qualification from Signature

It aims to teach functional communication in British Sign Language through tasks which resemble some of the real life experiences of people who meet and mix with Deaf people in their family, social or working lives.

Course Details

This course enables you to acquire a basic ability to communicate with deaf people using sign language. It also provides information about deaf people, the community and culture.

On this course you will be able to learn a much wider vocabulary and range of grammatical principles to improve receptive skills and fluency sign.

Entry Guidelines

Communication skills - You will need to be able to follow instructions, work as part of a group or pair and demonstrate the manual dexterity to copy signs effectively.

Successful completion of a BSL L1 course and practical assessments.

English at Grade 3/D standard or above or equivalent

Maths at Grade 3/D standard or above or equivalent

Students would normally hold one of the following: Level 1 Certificate in BSL, Level 1 Certificate in Deaf Community & Culture, Level 1 Certificate in Communication Tactics, Level 1 Certificate in Deaf Awareness.

Successful completion of BSL Level 2 Part 1, with a high pass mark

Satisfactory interview and signed assessment.

Assessment Method

There will be a variety of assessment methods including:

    e-assessment (or substituted DVD) which will be externally assessed recorded assessment on film through DVD or USB or similar means and included in a coursework file, which will be internally assessed by the teacher-assessor, and externally moderated by IBSL. 'live' assessment by an External Examiner.
Additional Information

Cost: Examination fee payable at enrolment.

Three Assessments during the academic year period.

Recommended length of course 100 hours (60 hours in classroom, 30 hours video receptive and contact with deaf people at the Deaf Club.)
