This course will help you develop independence, self confidence and social skills. You will also gain an awareness of the skills needed for employment and/or opportunities to progress to another course. You will work towards either the Award, Certificate or Diploma qualification once you have taken part in an assessment.
This course is run over three days and will give you the opportunity to explore what you are good at and what skills you need to develop for work.
You will have regular group and individual tutorials. Your tutor may arrange a work placement for you if appropriate.
Some of your learning will take place in the community and you will run a small business in College. You will also have your own personal targets to work towards.
Literacy skills will include speaking and listening, reading and writing. Numeracy skills will include counting, use of money, using a calculator, adding and subtracting, weighing and measuring. You will develop your computer skills.
You will work towards the Edexcel Independence and Work Certificate Entry 2 or 3, College certificates and/or the English Speaking Board qualification.
All applicants must have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) or apply for one in order to attend at this level.
You should be working at Entry Level 2-3 of the Adult Core Curriculum and have the skills to follow all Health and Safety rules in College.
You should have the potential to develop your communication, literacy and numeracy skills to support your independence and increase your work skills.
You should be willing to develop your independent travelling and vocational skills. You may get extra help to do this.
You will be expected to work as part of a team and take part in practical learning.

Students will be assessed by completing practical activities.

You need to have the commitment to take part in all learning activities. Working as part of a small group is of high importance for this course.
Students will take part in the Snack Hatch enterprise at College, as part of work experience, to help build employability skills.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:
- A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
- Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
- English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths
- Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
If you are aged 19 or over:
The fee quoted is for the academic year 22/23.
