There’s never been a better time to study at Wirral Met College, which is dedicated to preparing students for jobs in growing industry sectors locally.
Wirral Met is committed to providing students with the skills and qualifications to take advantage of the growth in jobs across Wirral and the Liverpool City Region. A key part of gaining skills and experience for jobs is the opportunity to use specialist industry standard equipment in realistic working environments and Wirral Met has invested millions of pounds over recent years to provide the best facilities in the area.
Those interested in a career in the growing logistics sector will now be able to gain valuable qualifications whilst being the first to study in the new Logistics Centre in our Twelve Quays Campus, from September 2016. The Logistics Centre provides a realistic working environment including fork lift truck training facilities (with actual fork lift trucks and fork lift truck simulators), and warehousing and storage equipment to support stock control, ordering and dispatching of goods and transportation control. These excellent facilities will support young people to progress into jobs in areas such as Control and Replenishment Assistants, Store Assistants and Warehouse Operatives.
The specialist Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Centre at the Twelve Quays Campus includes workshops to support every aspect of engineering design and development, a dedicated digital technology learning zone with exciting new 3D printers, the latest robotic equipment and enhanced Science laboratories. The new Engineering and Digital Technology workshops and Science laboratories each contain specialist equipment to support students studying courses from level two up to Higher National Certificate/Diploma and degree level, enabling students to progress onto a wide range of careers across the sector. Don’t take our word for it - a recent External Verifier report stated, “The centre has a newly opened STEM Centre equipped with robots and assembly modes, which, when computer-linked with newly purchased CNC machining centres, will provide an outstanding manufacturing teaching resource.”
These latest developments follow on soon after the opening of the new Wirral Waters Campus in September 2015, dedicated to construction and the built environment, which is preparing bricklayers, carpenters, decorators, electricians, plumbers, plasterers and building sector professionals.
The specialist Oval Campus in Bebington, dedicated to sports and public services, was opened in 2014, and supports careers in the growing leisure sector and professional careers in the armed forces, the emergency services and public service roles.
The vibrant Visitor Economy sector is also growing rapidly across the Liverpool City region, with employers increasingly looking for employees in roles supporting tourism across hotels, restaurants and bars, culture, entertainment and travel. Once again, Wirral Met has invested significantly in the development of its salons, training restaurant and kitchens, travel shop and aviation facilities, at our Conway Park Campus.
Wirral Met is suitably proud of its excellent college facilities and the positive impact these are having in helping students to progress onto university, apprenticeships and jobs in a wide range of careers across the local economy.
