This course aims to provide you with self awareness and developed listening skills which may enhance your current job roles. It may also be beneficial as a stepping stone to the next level in a career in Counselling. The course includes: The Level 2 Award in Counselling Concepts qualification covers three topics looking at: The Professional Context of Counselling — This unit provides a basic introduction to counselling. Learners will develop an understanding of what counselling is and an appreciation that qualified counsellors and those who use counselling skills abide by an ethical framework. They will learn about the importance of creating the correct environment and the right ethos for the helping relationship to be successful. Communication Skills in Helping Relationships — In this unit, learners will explore effective communication skills used in helping relationships. They will demonstrate a range of listening and responding skills to establish, develop and close interactions. An Introduction to Personal Development — In this unit, learners will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal development and identify areas for development in the future.

Minimum of 3 GCSE at grade 3/D or above.
This qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and/or severe psychological confusion. Please be aware that the course involves experiential elements that will involve some personal disclosure and associated personal developmental activities.
Attendance will be required at an information session prior to start of the course where expectations and readiness to study are assessed.
You will need to provide an A4 file, plastic wallets, paper & pen. A clipboard to use to take notes in the sessions may be useful.
Continuous skills and personal development assessment together with a Learning Review (a written record of your learning experiences and feelings on the course) and a Self Review showing your understanding of what you have learned on the course and how it relates to you. You will be required to complete weekly coursework tasks to create your portfolio of work. All work is submitted via Microsoft Teams. These are externally verified by the awarding organisation.
90% attendance is required but 100% is expected due to the experiential nature of the course. Please be aware that if your long term goal is to work with vulnerable adults or any person under the age of 18, it will be necessary to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at any required college work placement, or eventual place of work.
Progression on to Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or Level 2 Understanding Substance Misuse.
