This course enables you to develop your skills and knowledge to an advanced level to meet industry required standards.

Please note that it is mandatory to complete awarding body COVID19 qualifications whilst studying a VTCT course. The exam registration fee is approximately £20.
Course Details
  • During your course it is expected that you will develop advanced technical skills and knowledge to improve employability.
  • As part of your qualification you will take part in a hair competition and produce a portfolio of professional images.
  • During your course you will be expected to attend national shows and exhibitions.
Entry Guidelines


To study a Level 3 qualification, you will need:

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including English and/or Maths (or L2 Functional Skills in English and/or Maths)
                                     OR
A relevant Level 2 qualification and English or Maths at Grade 4 or above (or L2 Functional Skills in English and/or Maths)

Satisfactory interview and/or assessment

Equipment Required

To learn effectively on this course, you will need to use certain items of equipment and uniform to undertake particular activities as part of your studies. These will be yours to keep and you will be able to use them for practice at home and in your future career. These items will incur additional costs and can be discussed with a member of the hairdressing and beauty team.

Assessment Method
Practical assessment tests are carried out and written assignments are completed. In addition there are VTCT End Tests.
Additional Information
An interview will be arranged where you will have an opportunity to discuss the course and your individual needs.
  • Good interpersonal skills are required.
  • Reading and writing skills will be needed for theory and exams.
  • Basic maths for measuring products and working within specific treatment times.
  • This profession and course require you to be able to carry out physical work for long periods of time. Reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate disabilities.
