The Makeup Professional Level 2 is a vocational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed hair and make-up artist.
This qualification has been specifically designed to help you develop the knowledge and skills to prepare learners for employment as a occasion or media make-up artist.
This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a hair and make-up artist including:
- Application of make-up
- The art of photographic make-up
- Client care
- Art of dressing hair
- Health and safety
This is a Study Programme for students who are 16-18 years of age.
To study a Level 2 qualification, you will need:
A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3, including English and Maths (or L1 Functional Skills in English and Maths)
OR
A relevant Level 1 qualification with GCSE English and Maths at grade 3 or above (or L1 Functional Skills in English and Maths)

To learn effectively on this course, you will need to use certain items of equipment and uniform to undertake particular activities as part of your studies. These will be yours to keep and you will be able to use them for practice at home and in your future career. These items will incur additional costs and can be discussed with a member of the hairdressing and beauty team.

Work books, projects, practical observations, witness statements, audio & visual evidence, written and oral questions and 5 external award body exams.
Reading & writing skills - You will need to produce written assignments.
Maths skills - You will need to measure products and work within specific timings.
This profession and course requires you to be able to carry out physical work for long periods of time. Reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate disabilities.

Are you aged 16-18? Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:
- A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
- Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
- English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A*-C in English and maths (grade 4 and above)
- Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips for this course.
Upon completion of this course, you will have the skills to progress on to Level 3 courses, or employment.

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
