The T Level in Digital Support Services and Cyber Security is a two-year, career-focused qualification designed for students who want to develop specialist skills in IT, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure. Ideal for those with a passion for technology and problem-solving, this course provides a direct route into the digital industry or higher education.
With a mix of classroom learning, industry placements, and hands-on projects, students will gain practical experience while working towards a qualification that is valued by employers. If you're looking for a course that blends technical knowledge with real-world application, this T Level is the perfect choice.
In the first year, you will build a strong foundation in core digital concepts, including IT infrastructure, networking, data management and analysis, cybersecurity principles, and programming (such as Python). This knowledge will be applied to real-world business contexts, covering areas like legislation, diversity and inclusion.
The second year focuses on the occupational specialism, developing key skills required for entry-level cybersecurity and IT support roles. You will learn how to maintain digital security, assess risks, and provide remediation advice while completing hands-on projects to demonstrate their abilities. A 9 week industry placement ensures you'll gain practical experience, making you job-ready upon completion. Throughout the course, you will also develop essential English, maths, and digital skills, preparing you for future study or employment in the fast-growing digital sector. In addition, you will develop transferable technical and practical skills in communication (working with colleagues, customers and clients), research and project work, providing you with an opportunity to demonstrate your reflective practice by suggesting alternative approaches to a problem.
Throughout this course, you will learn how to ensure organisations maintain their digital security, this will include the following performance outcomes:
- Apply procedures and controls to maintain the digital security of an organisation and its data
- Propose remediation advice for a security risk assessment
- Discover, evaluate and apply reliable sources of knowledge
- T-Levels are equivalent to three A Levels. They are developed in collaboration with employers to ensure the content meets the need of specific industries and include a significant industry placement.
- You will need 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above. Two of the 5 GCSE's to be maths and English Language at Grade 4 or above.
- If you have achieved at least a merit in a level 2 qualification in the subject you want to study and have a maths and English Language GCSE at Grade 4 or above (or functional skill level 2) you can study at this level.
Assessment for this T Level includes two written exams, a controlled assessment known as the Employer Set Project, and a skills-based assessment for the occupational specialism, along with evidence from your industry placement.
Upon completing this T Level, you can progress into a career in IT and cybersecurity, secure an apprenticeship in the digital sector, or advance to higher education, such as a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
