A thirty six week course to introduce students to motor vehicle studies following the IMI level 1 maintenance and repair career route. The course covers all aspects of the IMI level 1 career route with the opportunity to progress to IMI level 2 course on the satisfactory completion of level 1 course.

Course Details

This course enhances the learning of Level 2 and completes the VRQ section of study which is the technical element of assessment. It includes both practical and diagnostic assessment units required for progression into apprenticeships.

Entry Guidelines

Successful completion of Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 2.

Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference.

Equipment Required

To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment and undertake particular activities. We will provide these for your use whilst in College, but to enhance your learning experience further we require you to have Personal Protective Equipment and a small tool kit. Assessment Method

Students are assessed through practical assessments and on-line multi-choice theory questions.

Additional Information

Information Technology - you will develop computer skills as part of your course. All students are assessed in basic skills and additional support will be offered to individual students as necessary to improve individual achievement.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C or Grade 4 or above in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.

If you are aged 19 or over:

If you are aged 19+ and living in the Liverpool City Region (inc Wirral), many courses will be free. If you are aged 19+ and live outside the Liverpool City Region, this course may be free. Terms & conditions apply.

If you are aged 19+, you may be able to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan (which is available for this course).
