Access to HE Sociology and Criminology is a full level 3 qualification. When you achieve this qualification you will be able to progress onto university. You will study here at Hamilton Square Campus for 2 days a week.
You will need to know which university (or College) you wish to progress to as applications are made through UCAS in September.
During the course you will study two core modules:
- Sociology
- Criminology
You will also study Law.
Some of the modules you will study include:
- Offender Profiling
- Feminism and the Household
- Race in British Society
- Poverty in Contemporary Britain
- Terrorism and the State
You will need to achieve 60 credits to gain a Level 3 Access to HE Diploma. You will study a total of 19 units, with 18 units worth 3 credits each and one unit worth 6 credits. 15 units are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction, and 4 units are ungraded.
Some Higher Education courses ask for a certain number of Merits or Distinctions to gain a place on their courses.
This course is for students aged 19plus.
Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths or GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C.
You will be interviewed and be able to demonstrate your understanding of the career you want to progress to.
Satisfactory interview and assessment (written/comprehension task).
If you wish to pursue a career in Social Work you will also need current and relevant experience of working/volunteering in a social care setting.
Office use only. Non Standard 44b.You will be assessed through assignments set such as essays, academic posters, reports, research tasks, timed assessments and presentations.
You will be required to complete a written task and which you will bring with you to interview. Evidence must be presented of qualifications.
Once completed you will be able to progress to University to study subjects related to Sociology, Criminology, Social Studies etc.
