Supported Internships are education programmes that offer young people with an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) transition from education to employment.

During your Supported Internship, you will gain practical work-based experience with an employer, providing a smooth transition from education to paid employment and/or further study. Each Supported Internship is tailored to your individual needs, to help you develop the skills needed to gain paid employment.

You will:

  • Build your skills and confidence
  • Gain a better understanding of employment
  • Progress towards paid work

Programmes are split between 1 day at our Conway Park campus, and 16 hours in a workplace setting.

During your time at Conway Park, you will study:

  • Employability Skills
  • Maths & English
  • Tutorials

Our team of friendly, student support staff will help you into work placements, and bypass the traditional job application process. Working with your Course Leader, Coordinator, Job Coach and Additional Learning Support Tutor, you will access a wide range of support, develop strategies for progress, and take the next step towards your career.

The journey explained:

  1. Apply for the course
  2. Attend a college interview, receive an offer, and enrol
  3. Attend a college induction and group work placement
  4. Attend a meet and greet interview for the individual work placement
  5. Create an action plan
  6. Set targets and review progress
  7. Devise a job description and carry out tasks as agreed

80% of our supported interns have secured paid employment at the end of their internship over the last 3 years.

If the student does not receive a job offer we will put a ‘next steps’meeting in place to signpost to alternative options including getting support from the DWP or external agencies.

Regardless of the outcome all interns will benefit from an employer reference and significant work experience.
