A group of refugees and asylum seekers studying English language at Wirral Met College took time out to play ukuleles and sing carols for people with dementia.

Featuring young people from El Salvador, Syria, Kurdistan, Iraq, Egypt, Guinea Bissau, Thailand, Ethiopia, Sudan, the group took part in the event at Meadowcroft Community Wellbeing Hub in Bromborough on Tuesday afternoon.

The 15 are on an English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) course at Wirral Met, were joined for the afternoon of entertainment by ukulele group the Neston Strummers, who have been teaching them how to play the instrument.

Their performance included a reading of classic poem 'Twas The Night Before Christmas and renditions of Jingle Bells and We Wish You A Merry Christmas, accompanied by ukulele players.

As well as singing, the group also took part in Christmas crafting sessions with the audience.
