Students at Wirral Met College have been gaining expert industry advice from an acclaimed local filmmaker.

Double BAFTA nominated television and film writer, graphic novelist and director Chris Shepherd spoke to Illustration and Animation students, delivering a guest lecture which explored his life and work. 

Since creating his first animation in 1989, Chris has gone on to receive critical acclaim through his work, collaborating with Channel 4 and BBC, with his films being not only praised by critics, but also award-winning.

He has recently released Anfield Road, his debut graphic novel which tells a coming-of-age story centered around growing up in the working-class dynamics of Merseyside in the late eighties.

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about careers in the arts, setting up their own businesses, and creative collaborations.

Wirral Met College’s BA (Hons) Illustration with Animation course, awarded by the University of Chester, explores Illustration and Animation through exciting guest lectures, creative workshops, and seminars, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills, knowldge, and industry experience to thrive in a creative career. 

Taught in state-of-the-art facilities at their Twelve Quays campus in Birkenhead, students define their creative language, and develop varied portfolios to prepare them for a long-lasting career in industry.
