Are you looking for a new job in Hospitality and Catering? We are helping local employers to recruit aspiring chefs and front of house team members across Wirral and Chester.

There are live apprenticeship vacancies (with more coming soon) with some of the area’s leading restaurants, bars, coffee shops and care homes.

With the hospitality industry continuing to bounce back since the pandemic, now is the time to join this creative, vibrant sector and start your rewarding career.

Why an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships can be an excellent alternative to A Levels and university, as you get paid while gaining a qualification and experience in the industry you want to progress your career in.

With hands-on training, different levels to suit all abilities and the chance to earn while you learn, apprenticeships are an exciting career option for all ages.

It’s a common misconception that to be an apprentice, you must be between the ages of 16-25. As long as you’re over the age of 16, living in England and not taking part in full-time education, you can become an apprentice.

This also makes apprenticeships the perfect route for those who wish to upskill in their careers or move their career in a completely new direction.

Alternatively, you may have decided to return to work now that your children are in school, to earn money to support your household bills.  If you’re unemployed and keen to start a new career, then an apprenticeship often pays the national minimum wage whilst you build up your skills and experience.

Apply now for live apprenticeship vacancies

The catering and hospitality sector serves up a host of different apprenticeships in restaurants, cafés, pubs and hotels.

Wirral Met College is recruiting apprentices for local businesses in West Kirby, Chester, Irby, Greasby, Saughall Massie, Prenton and Birkenhead.

Wirral Met College has live apprenticeship vacancies available now with:

Keep an eye on Wirral Met’s website for future vacancies including:

  • Charlotte's Kitchen, Saughall Massie
  • Jaunty Goat, Chester
  • Le Mont Blanc Restaurant, Irby

No prior experience is needed to apply for one of the positions, just a passion for food and an appetite to learn new skills!

You will study one of the following apprenticeship routes: Production Chef (level 2); Commis Chef (level 2); Hospitality Team Member (level 2) or Hospitality Supervisor (level 3). English and maths can be provided alongside your studies, if required.

The typical day in the life of an apprentice chef is varied and fun. You will prepare, cook and present food to the highest standard, set up the kitchen for service, and keep the kitchen clean, tidy and hygienic at all times.

As a hospitality team member, you may serve food and drink to customers, take bookings, and/or play a part in food preparation. You will develop excellent hospitality skills including recognising customer needs and working as part of a team to ensure every customer feels welcomed and looked after.

You’ll benefit from a range of different shift patterns and the opportunity to progress quickly, with the potential for a more permanent role.

Those interested are asked to send their CV to Wirral Met’s friendly team or complete an online form. More information can be found here.

Not quite got the skills needed to start an apprenticeship?

Not all young people are prepared or feel confident for work.

Traineeships are an ideal first step for those who have little to no work experience and are unemployed.

The short, flexible courses are designed for 16-24 year olds (or up to 25 years old with an EHCP) who are interested in securing an apprenticeship or employment.

Wirral Met College has catering traineeships starting on Monday 24 October 2022.

Students typically spend 4 weeks in college and 8 weeks with an employer on a high-quality work placement. To find out more, register your place at the Information Event on Wednesday 19 October.
