Wirral Met College has continued in its pledge to create careers for students, with an international work placement trip in France.

Students from Hospitality and Culinary Arts recently took part in work experience in Marseille, assisting at a selection of bars, restaurants, cafés and kitchens across the city in the south of France.

Over a three-week period, students worked behind the scenes in kitchens preparing food, at café desks making drinks, and as front of house staff, meeting, greeting, and serving customers.

In recent times, Wirral Met students have travelled the globe on work experience in locations such as Lisbon, Malta, and Granada, whilst future planned trips span as far as Dubai!

These trips have been made possible thanks to programmes such as Erasmus+ and the Turing Scheme, initiatives which provide funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world.

Our students arrived on the French coast and quickly got to grips with their work placements.

Sophie and Phoebe relished the early starts that a local bakery brought whilst Ellie was loving life working at a restaurant bar preparing food.

The port city’s cultural connections also enabled some lucky students to experience famous locations and famous clients too.

Declan found himself working in the kitchen of Bar De La Marine, a location made popular in Love Actually, during its famous proposal scene, whilst Mia worked at Peron, a Michelin guide restaurant, where she had the chance to serve celebrity clientele.

Some of our students made such an impression on their employers that they’ve even been offered jobs to return in the summer!
