Students from our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) department, have worked in partnership to help shape innovative new websites.
Working alongside Wirral Multicultural Organisation (WMO), our students took part in research sessions, providing crucial feedback to guide the direction of two new sites; an updated version of Wirral Multicultural Organisation’s website, and Drug Talk, a new resource platform.
Wirral Multicultural Organisation’s Drug Talk website provides people from ethnic minority communities in Wirral with accessible, non-judgmental information and harm-reduction advice on a range of legal and illegal substances.
The website supports people who are concerned about their own drug and alcohol use or that of family and friends, helping to reduce the risks associated with drug and alcohol use, and improve the health and wellbeing of local ethnic minority communities.
Key findings from research found that 68% of students did not know where to get help for drug and alcohol issues, and that resources were not available in the wide range of languages spoken by ESOL students, and members of local ethnic minority communities.
The site will deliver multilingual resources in over 100 languages, aimed at supporting young people.
Wirral Met College is proud to be certified as a College of Sanctuary, going above and beyond to support refugees and people seeking asylum and help raise awareness about migration and why people seek safety amongst students, staff and the wider community. Serving over 600 ESOL students, we are proud to be an inclusive college.
