News

On Tuesday 10th December, Wirral Met hosted its employer partners for a festive celebration to honour the work done throughout the year.

Employers gathered at our Met At The Square Restaurant to reflect on collaborations, student projects and partnerships completed throughout the year.

In recent months, Wirral Met students have taken part in a wide variety of community projects with our partners. Over the last few weeks, ESOL, Prep for Life and Construction students have been working together on a special Christmas project, using repurposed wood, donated by Wirral Food Bank.

Construction students mentored our Prep for Life and ESOL learners, sharing their skills and knowledge, to help create Christmas tree decorations from the wood. These were then decorated with paint and lights. As a mark of our appreciation for their continued support, these were presented to employers.

This year has been a fantastic example of students working alongside employer partners to give back to the community, gaining valuable skills and experience, and reaffirming our strong relationships with local organisations.

Throughout the year, we have seen our students give back to the community on numerous occasions.

In May, our Carpentry and Joinery students built bird boxes and bug hotels for the Woodland Glade at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust. This fantastic work was later recognised with a shortlist at the NHS Forest Awards, which acknowledges NHS healthcare sites which transform their green space for health, wellbeing and biodiversity.

Meanwhile, our ESOL students showed a great commitment to improving spaces in the local community, tending to the allotments at Birkenhead Park’s Edward Kemp Community Garden.

In the past week, Tam O’Shanter Urban Farm released their 2025 calendar, featuring images taken by Wirral Met photography students.

We are incredibly proud of the commitment made by our students, producing fantastic pieces of work, and representing Wirral Met College in the community.

This continued into this week’s employer event with students from our Hospitality and Culinary Arts department providing a wonderful range of snacks and refreshments, whilst a special mention goes to Aspiring Professionals Early Years student Ayan, who treated guests to homemade Baklava.

Our strong partnerships with local businesses and industry leaders play a crucial role in the educational journey of our students. It opens doors to many exciting opportunities for our learners and contributes greatly to the development of our curriculum.
