Students from Travel and Tourism, and Hospitality and Culinary Arts have completed their latest industry placements, developing their skills with Stena Line.

Our learners completed an intensive one-week placement, covering a wide range of skills, in various settings.

Students kicked off the week with an induction session, being briefed about the work ahead, and covering essentials such as safety, policies and commercial training. Following this, they toured the ferry terminal, looking into the workings of the passenger check-in, freight check-in, and yard checks.

Once they had completed their training, our students were ready to head aboard and start their work experience on the Irish Sea.

On Wednesday and Thursday, students were welcomed onto Stena Line’s Edda and Embla vessels, familiarising themselves with the ships’ facilities, safety procedures, and cabins in preparation for an exciting overnight work placement.

Students were at the heart of the action, greeting passengers, working in the onboard restaurant and lounge, and delivering a fantastic experience for all travelling.

Additionally, students also developed their housekeeping skills, making up cabins and cleaning areas.

Upon returning to shore, students completed an employment workshop, honing up on their interview skills and CV building, before finishing their experience with an awards ceremony.

Rebecca Small, Talent Acquisition Manager at Stena Line said “Last week we had the pleasure of hosting Wirral Met students at Stena Line for their work experience, and we couldn’t be more impressed with their performance. Their professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication throughout the placement were outstanding. It was a joy to have them with us, and their contributions left a lasting impression. We’re proud to have supported these talented individuals on their career journeys and wish them every success in the future!”

Stena Line is one of the world’s largest ferry operators with over 33,300 yearly sailings. It employs over 6,100 employees from 40 countries across Europe.

Our Travel and Tourism, and Hospitality and Culinary Arts students are no stranger to exciting work placement opportunities. In the past year, they have travelled internationally to Marseille and Lisbon, working in restaurants, cafes and hotels, building up their CV and skills, as well as in local placements, such as New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion, where they assisted the front-of-house team.

Additionally, Hospitality and Culinary Arts students work each week in our Met At The Square restaurant, providing both catering and front-of-house services to the public.
