Therapeutic Counselling
Welcome to Level 4 Therapeutic Counselling at Wirral Met. This two year part-time qualification (1 full day per week) gives learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context in both health care and non-medical settings.
The course is designed for those learners who are seeking to be professionally qualified counsellors.
Please note you must have Level 2 and 3 or equivalent in Therapeutic Counselling to do this course.
Career Opportunities
This course is designed to lead to an employed or voluntary role in a counselling agency in both health care and non-medical settings, however can also open up routes to further study, opening up a wide range of career opportunities.

Counsellor
According to Prospects, starting salaries for counsellors can vary considerably but may be in the region of £20,000 to £26,000, whilst more experienced counsellors can earn between £30,000 and £40,000, with specialist roles attracting higher salaries. Counselling jobs in the NHS follow banded pay rates, depending on qualifications and experience, however the scale of fees for private practice work can vary greatly.

Social Worker
According to Prospects, salaries for newly qualified social workers start at around £33,000, however this can be up to £42,000 depending on your band. More experienced social workers can earn in the region of £39,000 to £50,000, however, some senior posts can achieve salaries in excess of this.

Advice Worker
According to Prospects, starting salaries for trainee advice workers are typically between £18,000 and £19,500, rising up to £26,500 with experience, whilst management positions can fetch salaries of £31,000. Senior roles can earn up between £35,000 and £45,000.

Youth Worker
According to Prospects, youth support workers who are not fully qualified can expect to earn between £19,308 and £28,787, with salaries for those who are qualified recommended to be between £25,313 to £42,718. Local authority youth service managers can expect salaries in excess of £40,000.
