Starting their journey back in 2007 as a small teashop based in a city centre gallery, LEAF quickly expanded into three café spaces across the Liverpool City Region and Manchester. Providing an intimate experience for its customers, LEAF has developed its offering to food, drink and entertainment, becoming staples in the popular independent food scene of the North West with a range of awards and accolades.

With quick expansion, comes a need for more resources. LEAF were also keen to give back to the local community so developed a traineeship programme with Wirral Met College.

When discussing the traineeship programme, Phil Mackenzie, Executive Chef at LEAF said that it “gives local young people the opportunity to get that first step on to the career ladder and we hope that the trainees will flourish with LEAF and become an integral part of our team.”

Traineeship programmes provide young people with the skills to progress on to Commis Chef apprentice positions.

As a former student, Phil Mackenzie was keen to work with Wirral Met College due to the “great teaching” that gave him a “springboard  in to the industry”. As a member of the College’s alumni community, Phil also offers practical masterclasses and work experience to students on full-time courses.

The flexibility of a traineeship programme provides businesses with the opportunity to build a high quality recruitment pipeline whilst aiding Corporate Social Responsibility strategies to support local initiatives to tackle youth unemployment.

Grow your business by offering a traineeship programme.

Wirral Met College will support you every step of the way, offering a personal service that you can rely on.
