The T Level in Health will equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to work in the Health sector, including providing insight into this dynamic sector.

Wirral Met is pleased to offer this new qualification which builds on our extensive experience of delivering Health courses in collaboration with employers and industry experts. In partnership with a number of NHS Trusts and healthcare providers, our programme ensures you will develop a real insight into the range of roles and services within this field. Your industry placement, alongside an employer set project and other activities will provide a strong basis to progress your career in this important sector.

T Levels are equivalent to 3 A Levels and their respective UCAS points, meaning that you can into skilled employment or higher-level technical training or degree study in the health sector.

At Wirral Met you will be given the opportunity to specialise in either Supporting the Care of are of Children and Young People or Adult Nursing.

Course Details

The purpose of the level 3 technical qualification is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into skilled employment or higher level technical training relevant to the T Level.
The technical qualification is split into 2 component parts:

Core component:

  • route core component (Year 1)
  • pathway core component (Occupational specialism in year 2) sector, including:
    • Working in the Healthcare sector
    • Scientific and clinical practice
    • Core science concepts: human biology and physiology
    • Providing person-centred care
    • Health and wellbeing
    • Safeguarding
    • Diseases and disorders of the human body

    The specialist component Supporting the Care of Children and Young People, includes:

    • Assisting the treatment of children and young people
    • Providing support for children and young people prior to and after clinical and therapeutic treatments
    • Supporting families, parents and carers to meet these needs of children and young people

    The specialist component Adult Nursing, includes:

    • Assisting an adult nursing team with clinical tasks
    • Supporting individuals to complete daily living activities
    • Assisting with the care and treatment of skin conditions

    You will also develop the essential healthcare sector skills of:

    • Communication
    • Team working
    • Reflective evaluation
    • Researching
    • Presenting
    • Occupational specialism options:
    • Supporting the Adult Nursing Team 
    • Supporting the Mental Health Team
    •  Supporting the Care of Children and Young People
    • Students will only complete one occupational specialism
    • The occupational specialisms provide students with knowledge and skills required to enter employment or further study in the specific occupational area.
  • Entry Guidelines

    This is a Study Programme for students aged 16-18 years.

    To study a T Level, you will need:

    A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including English and Maths  

    Relevant Level 2 qualifications at merit or above and English and Maths at Grade 4 or above.

    OR

    T-Level foundation programme and English and Maths at grade 4 or above

    Applicants should be ready to complete a work placement.

    Satisfactory DBS & GCSE Science grade 4 or above/Foundation Level 2 Health

    Equipment Required

    To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment and undertake particular activities as part of your studies; To further enhance your learning experience the following will be required:
    Uniform £60
    Disclosure and Barring Service Check Certificate £44

    Assessment Method

    The assessment consists of:

    Core component:

    • You will be externally assessed on an employer set project and will also complete exams.
      In addition there will be ongoing assessments of skills and knowledge in college.
    Additional Information

    Learners will be required to attend placement in a real work environment to support their learning. The minimum required number of placement hours is 315 hours.

    Where can I progress to?

    Upon achievement of this qualification, you will be able to access Higher Education* and progress into a wide range of job roles within the health and social care sector such as:

    Care Support Workers in Adult Residential Settings Healthcare Assistants in Community, Primary Care and Acute Health Environments

    Care Support Workers in Domiciliary Services, Supported Living or Day Services

    Community-Based Support Workers.

    * Higher Education Institutions may have their own entry requirements. Completion of this qualification will equip you with the essential knowledge and skills required to progress to Higher Education in a related field of study

    This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
