The CACHE Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools Diploma
course is designed to further develop the knowledge, understanding and skills of
Teaching Assistants while supporting children and young people in the curriculum
subjects of English, maths and ICT in Primary, Secondary and SEND schools and
colleges.
This qualification is for experienced practitioners who do not have
a formal qualification in childcare/education.
A trainer/assessor will deliver the knowledge sessions and undertake assessment of your practice in the workplace setting, you are required to be in your setting a minimum of 12 hours per week.
To gain the qualification students will need to achieve 44 credits (11 mandatory units and approx 4 optional units). Candidates are expected to develop and demonstrate knowledge and practical competence to a National Standard at Level 3.

- Supporting bilingual pupils
- Supporting speech, language and communication
- Supporting transitions
- Supporting special educational needs and disabilities
- Supporting assessment for learning
Workbased
To study a Level 3 qualification, you will need:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including English and/or Maths (or L2 Functional Skills in English and/or Maths)
OR
A relevant Level 2 qualification and English or Maths at Grade 4 or above (or L2 Functional Skills in English and/or Maths)
In addition to this, you are required to have 2-3 months experience in a relevant setting, and an agreement from your headteacher, that you can be assessed in your setting by our trainer assessors.

Good organisational and time management skills are essential in order to plan and achieve this award. It is essential you demonstrate commitment to this course through high motivation, including full attendance and independent study.

The purchase of childcare books is recommended. Your trainer/assessor will
work with you to identify your particular learning and support needs in order to
assist you in your studies.
The qualification provides a sound foundation on which to build and gain access to further advanced/specialist qualifications. Progression to other Level 3 progression courses and higher education is possible. Employment opportunities include working in a school setting at Key Stage 1-4 with increased roles and responsibilities.
