The course leads to an Ascentis 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting.

Course Details

The course will cover 10 units:

  • Interpreting two ways, sight translation, medical interpreting
  • Planning to work as a Community Interpreter within : Mental Health services/Housing Services, Welfare Benefits System and within an Education system

The course will give students more knowledge of the practicalities of employment as an interpreter. Students will also have the opportunity to further practise and refine their interpreting skills. Students will practise in routine role play situations and also through sight translation.

Entry Guidelines

The course is open to applicants with very good knowledge of two languages and who have completed a level 2 functional skills or equiv/interpreting or have experience as an interpreter professionally.

Satisfactory interview, assessment and/or satisfactory reference.

Must have strong IT skills and ideally have used Microsoft Teams as some lessons and assignments are set through Teams.

  • Diploma in Public Service Interpreting at Wirral Met
  • Employment or the voluntary sector where language skills are needed
