This is a one year course and is an essential qualification for many students.
The course aims to expand the ability of students to constructively analyse and evaluative pieces of writing.
This course is FREE for you if you do not already have GCSE English at grade 4/C or above or you live in the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.The course consists of:
Exam Paper 1: 19th Century Fiction (40% of your overall mark)
Section A: Reading
Section B: Imaginative writing
Exam Paper 2: 20th and 21st Century Non-Fiction (60% of your overall mark)
Section A: Reading
Section B: Transactional writing
In addition you are required to complete a Speaking and Listening assessment which includes:
Communicating and adapting language
Interacting and responding and creating and sustaining a role
Applicants must pass an initial assessment.

Written exam paper, based on set texts, and speaking and listening assessment.
Communication skills - Ability to communicate effectively on a one to one basis e.g. with tutors, students and in a group as part of a discussion. You should also have the confidence to talk to a larger group on a prepared topic. Individual, pair and group oral activities are a formally assessed part of the course.
