This qualification will provide learners with underpinning knowledge and related practical skills in a range of engineering subjects that they could face in an engineering job role.

Course Details

Students will obtain this qualification once they have successfully completed the three mandatory units followed by three optional units below:

    Mandatory:
  • Engineering health and safety
  • Engineering principles
  • Principles of fabrication & welding
  • Optional units:
  • Manual metal arc welding of materials
  • MIG welding of materials
  • Pattern development for fabrication
Entry Guidelines

Level 2 Diploma in Engineering (2850) or equivalent at Pass grade or above
Or
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade A*-C (Grade 4 or above), including Maths, Physics and preferably English
With
Practical workshop experience and a familiarisation of hand tools, machinery and welding equipment.

Selection process includes:

  • Attendance at a welcome event
  • Skills test assessment
  • School report and/or satisfactory reference

Equipment Required

To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment and undertake particular activities as part of your studies. This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.

If you are aged 19 or over:

If you are aged 19+ and living in the Liverpool City Region (inc Wirral), many courses will be free. If you are aged 19+ and live outside the Liverpool City Region, this course may be free. Terms & conditions apply.

If you are aged 19+, you may be able to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan (which is available for this course).
