Welcome to the Aspiring Automotive Maintenance Professional programme at Wirral Met. This programme has been designed to give you the skills and knowledge to start your journey towards your dream career in the exciting Automotive industry.
Alongside developing your technical abilities, the programme will help you to get work ready by building on your confidence and interpersonal skills.
You will have the opportunity to try out a range of subject areas related to the Automotive industry, allowing you to explore different career paths and discover your strengths before progressing onto a Level 2 qualification.
The programme will help you to improve your Maths and English, develop technical skills, gain work experience and get involved in extra-curricular activities and tutorials. It has been designed to help you develop professionally and supports your progression.
Alongside subject specific knowledge you'll have the opportunity to improve your Maths, English and Digital skills — essential for helping you get a job in the future. You will benefit from the guidance of passionate and experienced teachers who are invested in your success. They will provide personalised support, constructive feedback, and a listening ear every step of the way.

The subject specific knowledge you will cover
includes:
- Health and safety practices in the Automotive
- Automotive foundation skills
- Tools, equipment and materials for vehicle maintenance
- Skills in materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
- Spark ignition engine systems, components and operation
- Compression ignition engine systems, components and operation
- Steering and suspension systems components and maintenance (4 wheels or more)
- Vehicle braking systems components and maintenance
This is a Study Programme for students aged 16-18 years.
If you are yet to gain any formal qualifications (e.g. GCSE's) you will be enrolled onto our Aspiring Professionals Programme which is perfect for progression to further study at level 2 or alternatively an apprenticeship route into employment.
Basic levels of literacy and numeracy are required for you to study at this level (grade 2 or below in English/Maths)

To learn effectively on this course, you will need to use certain items of equipment to undertake particular activities as part of your studies. This will incur additional costs.

If you have not achieved a grade 4/C or higher in English and Maths, you will work alongside your course to complete this.
An interview for all candidates will be arranged with a member of the teaching team where you will have an opportunity to discuss the course and your individual needs.

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
